I doubt this is actually a rare thing, but did you ever buy consoles or computers for one specific game to begin with? Obviously you normally end up with a lot more games for it, but I myself have definitely bought multiple systems over the years because I HAD to play one game on it.
Gameboy - Pokemon Red Gamecube - Pokemon Colisseum (ironically didn't end up being one of my favourites after playing so much else on the GC) PS3 - Yakuza 3 PSP - Darkstalkers Chronicle GBA - Spyro Season of Ice
What are yours?

I really wanted the SNES after playing Fzero in Co-op on a demo unit, sure before I got mine I played Mario World on a friends and decided I needed one even more but it was Fzero that started my need for the machine.
Rogue Squadron 2 pushed me towards Cube ownership although loving a lot of Nintendo related stuff I think I would have ended up there eventually.

Only reason I bought 3DO was because Super Street Fighter II Turbo was exclusive. Only reason I bought Sega Saturn was because Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 was exclusive. Only reason I bought Xbox 360 was because Don King Prizefighter was exclusive. I think those are the only systems I've ever bought specifically for one game and one game only.

Definitely went back to Nintendoville and picked up a GBC for Pokemon Blue. Pretty sure that was the only game I ever bought for the system.

I don't think I ever have, there's always been more than one or another reason like the dvd drive/blu ray in the ps2/3. I nearly bought a 3ds for dragon quest 8 but never got round to it.

I got a PS4 when Alien: Isolation came out (I could also have got it for the PS3 I already had), but I don't think I ever bought any other computer or console for a particular game. With the PS4 I was waiting for something I really wanted and that was a good excuse.

Thats kind of the thing for me I love new tech and want new tech and certain games are a good excuse for talking myself into it.

Added a Jaguar to my collection for Tempest 2000 Me too. I bought a PS1 on the basis of Ridge Racer. which seemed incredible coming after my Atari ST. I still play that sometimes, it's one of my go to games. I wanted a Cube for Pikmin, then only played the game part way through once and never returned to it. I bought plenty of other stuff for it. I think of my Cube as my Bond machine now, having torn through Agent Under Fire, Nightfire, Everything or Nothing, and From Russia With Love. The Vectrex was bought pretty much for Scramble as it was the game I fell in love with BITD.

I've bought many consoles and platforms for a specific game.
Master System - Alex Kidd in Miracle World Gameboy - Tetris SNES - Got it for Star Fox / Starwing (in PAL territories) PS1 - Silent Hill, Gran Turismo and Resident Evil PSP - Got it for the emulators more than anything, but specific game wise got it for GTA on a handheld. PS3 - Demons Souls PC - Might and Magic V: Darkside of Xeen
