Loop Hero is amazing. It's hard to explain but essentially your hero travels on a loop, fighting things automatically and all you do is build the loop and take the loot. It's more complicated than that but super easy to get into. I love it a lot.
Rogue Legacy and Dead Cells are maybe the two best games in terms of feeling (and looking) retro but ultimately being way ahead of anything you could do on the SNES etc.

It makes it all the more baffling that Full Metal Furies didn't do well: www.destructoid.com/why-is-rogue-legacys-follow-up-considered-a-pretty-massive-failure/

I guess you could call Loop Hero an idle game, in that that's the genre of games that will essentially play themselves after the initial setup.
It just adds in roguelike elements and there's the risk/reward mechanic of deciding when to end the loop. With some practice and a bit of luck it's possible to get hundreds, maybe even thousands, of loops on a single play.

Golf Story on the Switch. A humorous golf RPG with 8/16 bit graphics, that plays a solid round of golf borrowing from the old Mario golf games.

I enjoyed Golf Story but some parts dragged, and the bit that went all Earthbound didn't work for me. Totally worth playing though with some laugh out loud moments. I'm looking forward to seeing what the devs do with their next game (that keeps getting delayed).
