My first console was the VCS, probably Christmas 1981. I got Combat with it and Space Invaders (which was the only game we ever bought for it - £25 for a game? Are you having a laugh?). A friend at school knew someone (an uncle I think) who owned or worked in a shop that sold VCS games, so he'd bring round a bag of games every couple of weeks and we'd spend the Sunday afternoon playing them :-) I re-bought one several years ago (the same 6-switch Woody that I had before), and got an SD card reader for it. I haven't got round to properly playing on it yet (I'm playing too many Vic-20 games at the moment). The VCS made me realise that computers were the way to go, especially when I saw the PET and VIC-20 and how much more you could do. Plus the games were a few pound, or free if you and your friends got together...

I wasn't born till 1981 but when I got a VCS as a hand me down, the trick to it is to set it up side by side with your Vic or C64 or Spectrum and play on it while the other one loads, that's what i did for years.

Night 1 of Chanukah in 1988 I got an NES with Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt/World Class Track Meet packed in. I was 5 and didn't know what a video game was. My dad hooked it up for me and we played Duck Hunt first. It blew my mind. The next night I got Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!, which is still my favorite NES game to this day.

Punchout is an absolute belter of a game, even now I can happily throw the NES Punchout on and be happy playing it.

First console was a Binatone Pong machine, but my first real console was in fact the Atari 2600 Sunnyvale model. In fact Atari stuff is still my main collecting area with almost 1000 pieces total.

I can beat Tyson in the first round on a CRT with OG hardware, but can't even beat Mr. Dream at all on NES Classic Edition or on Switch Online. The lag messes with my timing too much.

Gameboy DMG with the Saturn being the first home console, my Dad and Grandad were often given or sold cheap retired work PCs so they'd often give me one of those for games insted of buying anything else so I played DOS games for a while before any consoles.

Shows how old i am , i used to SELL the Atari 2600 for a living along with Texas ti99/4a/vic20/64/+4 Amstrad 464 and a few others .

Master System 2.
Came with Alex Kidd built in, and a copy of Dynamite Dux.
Loved that little bit of black plastic.

Mine was called the 'Orbit' ....pretty much one of those Pong/'Sports' clones.
From there I got a second hand Atari VCS and second hand ZX81....a lot of paperboy hours went into getting them!
