Bringing this over as they are a real passion of mine now although I still can't house anything bigger than the Tomy tables.
So far theres been Zaccaria (worth a punt as it's free for the first table and after the rest are usually cheap), Pinball FX1,2,3, Stern/Pinball arcade, Microsoft Pinball arcade (currently abandonware), Maxis Pinball and several others.
Also worth adding is places you know theres real ones, they are a rare breed by nature of their care requirements so its a real hunt to find them two I found in Yarmouth are:
Gold- CSI with tournament play Ceasers- Bally Pacman (not the hybrid) and a Circus one I forget the name of
Of course the home stuff can be covered here, eventually when I get to it I'll be improving a cheapo WHS smith table and if you want a Tomy Atomic but don't want to risk a near 40 year old game Smyths and a few other places sell the Neon Arcade Pinball thats a modernized clone, sadly nothing of the Astro shooter family yet (the Coke and 50s are grail items).
So Chaps and Chapettes lets play the silver ball

Are there any cheap mini pinball tables that have a genuine playability or is it only the full scale £3000 ones that are worth playing and too expensive to buy/upkeep? You mention a WH Smith table - I'm talking about things like that, but I don't know of anything myself.

The WH Smith one I'd say avoid, the Tomys are ok as is the clone, the Astro Shooter family being the most but also being past the £100 usually as they have sink holes along with active bumpers, Atomic still has the bumpers (clone actually plays Synthwave while running)and can be £15 and up. Theres a few 3/4 size ones about but you don't gain much over Tomy for the price, otherwise theres a whole host of Video options with kits a bit like a Mame cab of various sizes and types and the likes of 1up etc have made 3/4 sizes to match the Cabs including some to mimic real tables, prices are all over the place with these so it's best to just have a browse with a list of things you want from it to get an idea on price.
Video don't be put off by it not being a real ball, while still not a 100% mimic it's still very good to the point most wouldn't notice and a lot of apps use feedback so they can make it feel like the balls actually rolling through some clever speaker use and activate soleoids for bumpers and the flippers.
Theres a wildcard too, a Full scale Cocktail, these have about the footprint of an arcade cab, are a bit cheaper than a normal fullsize and by clever use of the square field remain very playable, downside is that it's still something that needs frequent maintence.
Have a look on Youtube at those suggestions at least, see what you think.

Heres the clone I speak of linkMechanically it's an Atomic Pinball although I can't say for certain what parts can interchange, obviously it's improved electrically with a digital scoreboard, music and keeping track or other players and balls used, I'm still hoping we see an Astro Shooter clone at somepoint, they aren't quite what you get from a 'real' table but they get reasobaly close with better comparison to the older Pinball tables that don't really use toys and stuff like Ramp shots.

If you really like Pinball then I have to highlight that Devil Crash on Mega Drive is one of the games being played in the Retroleague right now.

A local pub near me always had a pinball table in it, only got shot of it during COVID, I used to love nipping on it.
Last time I was at the coast I was playing the kiss pinball table, I really enjoyed it, I even got the misses to record me having a go despite me being not very good at it.
Me and her spent days playing a fishing based one on pinball FX trying to beat each others scores we got really competitive with each other it was kind of funny

I'd acctually just dug out my disc full of Roms to put it on my Mini player thing, I used to play it to death in my teens with Maiden on my mini stereo and the pooch at my side, I do own the Dragons fury cart too which was the PAL release with the censorship

The one I really wish they'd sort the license with Bally for is the Addams Family, I don't mind if the Characters have to be changed slightly etc, as long as its fundemntally the same I'd be more than chiffed to buy and play it.

I know it won't be for everybody because of the brand, but Pokemon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire on the GBA is an incredibly addictive pinball game. Only two tables but the physics are spot-on and there's so much going on with multipliers, secret paths to open etc. Plus you still have the catch 'em all but in a different way, summoning the monsters to field and hitting them enough times to capture them.
You also have to evolve caught Pokemon and have real staying power on the table to get the rarer, bigger 'mon.
There are also secret sub-tables that you can warp to iirc.
It's way better than the original game for the GBC as that one had a flick-screen setup for when the ball went to the top half of the table, whereas the GBA game just scrolls smoothly. The only thing going for the GBC original is the built-in rumble pack which was a nice addition.

I didn't know there was another, I knew the original with the Tilt sensor and that theres a Sonic one for the GBA too (still need to factory reset the cart) which also reminds me of Sonic Adventure which had Pinball at the Casino which would be nice rerealeased as it's own thing.

Got True Pinball along with my PS2. Took me a while to bother with it as wasn't really into console pinball games, but it was a great time killer once I tried it. Really enjoyed the Viking table.

I don't mind some of them, it depends on what it behaves likes and what the tables are like, if it goes too kooky or the Ball seems to follow set patterns then it loses my intrest quickly, I still need to buy the Epic Pinball set on GOG as I grew up playing the Cybergirl table.

Not claiming that it's a "good" pinball game, but I remember wasting a lot of time on the pre-installed Space Cadet pinball on Windows computers. It was a dark day when those free games no longer came with MS OS's

That clone does actually look quite interesting and I'm tempted to make a punt for it since it's £27. Although it does say assembly required and I don't know if I'm up to that part!
