....and it's fekn huge (was my first impression).
It was at a family event, so there wasn't much time to properly go through it, but the quick go I had on PS2 Gran Turismo 4 and Gamecube F Zero was astounding. The emulation was running at 1080p and was flawless.
These machines cost an arm and a leg, but jezus they're impressive.

I havent played on one but the local CEX has one in the window for £900 and I was kind of surprised how large it was.

Yeah, they're big. I checked the dimensions back when they were first announced and it's as wide as my 14" laptop.
While they might look pricey, you're getting a lot for your money. Even with component prices falling, you'd struggle to build a desktop of similar spec for the same money, let alone something with a battery, screen and gaming controls. It was only half as much as the best handheld games PCs at launch and outperformed them all into the bargain. There should be some sterner competition along later this year, I suppose, but nothing that leaps out as obviously better value.
Anyway, I'm still hoping that they open up pre-orders for Australia sometime soon. They're pretty close to clearing the backlog for the launch countries now, apparently, so if you were to order one now you'd probably get it sometime this year.
