In the latest Retro Gamer issue there is an interesting piece about the Megadrive game Fantasia. It was a fascinating discovery to read that the game was pulled away from the stores. And for such an odd reason! At the time of its release I did not have any consoles. However a friend of mine had the Megadrive and we went together to rent some games. One of those was Fantasia. We played it for an afternoon and we did not find it that bad, although we agreed that it was quite challenging. He gave up pretty quickly, but I wanted to persist.. So I asked my friend if I could borrow his console and the game for continue playing it. We had rented it for a few days anyway. So, the next day I started playing it again. I found it very punishing, but i got used to the bad controls and I learned to master them. Once this hurdle was overcome, I found that it was just a case of stubborn endurance. The game forced me to play it in one way only. I built on the enemies behaviour patterns, and in a couple of days I managed finishing it. I felt very satisfied, but I never thought about it as an ‘impossibly difficult’ game, as it seems to be regarded today. Probably, if I tried to play it again today at the height of my 50 years, I would probably have a very different impression!
Have you ever played Fantasia ,in its times or more recently? What were your thoughts?

I actually never played it as once I read the reviews, I wrote it off as being not worth my time. Maybe it's time to give it another go.
