Do you remember all of the bits of stuff you would get as a kid in various places, I am talking about the plastic things you would attach to your bike that made noise that would come free in cereal boxes or the various little plastic men and robots that you would get with your McDonalds happy meals or the Little card board Tazo discs that you would get in crisp packets with cartoon characters or Star Wars pictures on them?
With the death of happy meal toys it was like this kind of stuff had finally died, I cant think of anything quiet like it that you can get now.
What Memories do you have of this sort of stuff? I am pretty sure I got some of those clips that hold your shoe laces fastened from a cereal box one time, I also know I managed to get the complete set of Star Wars Tazo's I am pretty sure I still have them in the folder in a cupboard... I also remember being very very fond of a little robot I got that transformed into a McDonalds burger box that I decided was an honorary Autobot and used to play with when playing with my Transformers.

What happened to all this stuff? Cost-cutting? Or banned due to encouraging unhealthy foods?
I still have a complete Star Wars Tazos set in the binder. I remember it being a pain to complete as some were exclusive to Doritos and we never had those. That and the local shop used to illegally sell multipack crisps loose and we didn't cotton on at first. The Tazos were dumped in the bottom of the multipack outer bag so obviously you'd get nothing in those dodgy bags from THAT shop! I remember reporting said shop to Walkers and they very kindly set out the last Tazos we were missing for free!
I also have the first Looney Tunes Tazo set complete in binder, a full set of Looney Tunes Qubix, and a full set of Pokemon hologram Tazos.
Then there were those little rubber wrestler figures in cereals (wish I still had those)
Pogs! Had boxes full of those. It was the official brand that you'd get free in the crisps.
And, most missed of all, the packets in Walkers where you won a free pack of crisps or a fiver, tenner etc.
Good times. Boring as hell now. It all went downhill when they started subbing prizes for codes to text in etc.

oh yeah I remember those little sealed packs in crisps where you'd get a free pack they seemed quiet generous, I had quiet a few free packs out of that.... I suppose the closest thing to this now would be McDonald's Monopoly tickets.

What happened to all this stuff? Cost-cutting? Or banned due to encouraging unhealthy foods? Largely stopped to reduce plastic-waste I think. I don't have many memories of this kind of thing, although I did like Kinder Eggs and the little toys inside.

Kinda toys used to be amazing, having nephews and such now and having seen them wow have they totally become rubbish.

Used to collect a few of them, I was reading The Black Cauldron series of books and loved the little toys that tied into the Disney film. And I remember the toy diver/submarine that needed baking powder to work.

Same with those Froofroo (probably the wrong spelling) desserts that had a toy in a plastic tub in the middle.
Latest "toys" just cardboard crap. I totally understand the reasoning why, because the plastic IS a waste and ultimately just gets lost/binned, but still...

I was going to mention The Black Cauldron figures myself, they're the very first thing I remember collecting, it's always been one of my fave Disney movies as well.

The thing is the plastics a waste but kids still want tat to play with and smash up for cheap so you see no end of parents buying them rubbish like that in poundland so its not like there really is less plastic tat around, only difference is some 80's mcdonalds toys were better made than nowadays tat totys.

Anyone remember the Kelloggs bicycle reflectors that nearly every bike in the 80s had? Came in all different colours.... Attachments:

The other thing I remember was the Tango adverts, where somebody got slapped in the face. There was a number at the end of the ad, so I called it one day and got a free bottle!

I miss thins kind of tat, you can blame the likes of Mums net and the Sugar tax/Obesity lot for the death of them as apparently its up to the companes not to encourage the kids to eat more of their products rather than the parents just say no.
I really miss the Univeral Monster spoons and my Dinosaur Bowls my Mum binned, I did nearly get one of those Kellogg reflectors for the bike when it was overhauled, I did also have a load of those Tazos in my Pogs collection. I also can't have been the only one annoyed that they didnt win the Y fronts in the Pants or Prizes promo Dr Pepper ran years back.
Another one perhaps, Gumball Machine and Prize machine stuff, realized a little while ago when I was given a Gumball machine to restore how rarely now you see these in the wild, once a staple of Cornershops now rarely seen in favour of the Gatchapon that always cost more. I would love to get my Mitts on a Chicken or Parrot prize egg machine for sure and obviously the Holy grail is the Corgi Van.
