I have always been a fan of a bit of Wrestling, I was most into it in the 80's but I have always enjoyed a good Wrestling game and I think over the years there have been some right crackers so I thought why not make a thread to discuss them... I used to love the old WWF SuperStars and Wrestlefest in the arcade, I wasn that keen on the WWF Games on the SNES or Megadrive (Fire Pro and Saturday Night Slammasters were cool though) but come the PS1 and N64 games we got some awesome games, I loved the smackdown games for there story/career modes and the N64 Aki stuff was just so solid, I even really really liked Royal Rumble on the Dreamcast. What about everyone else? What makes a great Wrestling game for you? How important are the modes, the customization options, or the roster.

The mighty Wrestlefest!
Played it loads back in the day, was the first game I sought out when visiting Arcade Club.

I remember playing a wrestling game on the NES that was okay.
I was blown away when I first saw WWF Wrestlemania on a friend's SNES, though it hasn't stood the test of time.
I agree about the N64 AKI games. I still think No Mercy is the best wrestling game ever. The mechanics feel just right, and so many modern games overcomplicated the gameplay that I gave up on them. The character creation option was good on No Mercy too. I played it a lot with my brother and a couple of his friends, and me and my bro's friend were undefeated in tag teams against my bro' and his other friend. My brother beat(s) me on most games, so it's an important thing to remember!
Wrestling Empire is the best wrestling game I've played since No Mercy, and I remember chatting to you about it on ye olde forum.

Yeah Wrestling Empire is an incredible game, I still boot it up when I can't quite decide what to play, I think it's one of those rare games I will always find myself returning to.

WRESTLEFEST. I hope and pray Arcade1UP releases it some day. I would think it's a licensing nightmare but it would be cool to see

For me they peaked during the N64 days. I think Wrestlemania 2000 was the pinnacle of them for me, I think I was kind of over them by the time No Mercy came out.

WRESTLEFEST. I hope and pray Arcade1UP releases it some day. I would think it's a licensing nightmare but it would be cool to see Yes, definitely a licensing nightmare. At the end of the day though, the game doesn't have a huge roster, so it's probably only 2-3 wrestlers that would be an issue. So hopefully the impasse can be solved at some point. There's no doubt it would be a massive seller.

The N64 AKI wrestling games are definitely still my faves...asides from just 'feeling' right and having really fun mechanics, they also came out at just the right moment in time so they contained rosters full of absolute legends and other memorable midcarders. Basically lightning in a bottle, the right games at the right time.
I do enjoy WWE Day Of Reckoning 1 & 2 on Gamecube a fair bit as well though.

Pay the wrestlers. Pay the wildlife fund. Give us the genuine article. I'd gladly pay whatever crazy price Arcade1UP comes up with.

Royal Rumble game on SNES was a great addition to the genre. Loved the stats at the end of the match too.

Royal Rumble game on SNES was a great addition to the genre. Loved the stats at the end of the match too. I found the 16-bit Acclaim games to be okay in 1 player mode, but 2 player mode was just kind of torture IMO because of the button mashing grapple system. Really ruined for me what otherwise could have been great games. As much as I loved WWF in the 80s and early 90s, Acclaim could just never deliver a fun 2 player experience. WM, WM Challenge, Super WM, Royal Rumble and Raw were all a let down. Hell, even War Zone and Attitude on N64 were tedious.

War Zone was one of the most disappointing experiences I ever had with a video game. My mates went wild for it at the time. I almost became an outcast because I didn't think it was very good
