War Zone was one of the most disappointing experiences I ever had with a video game. My mates went wild for it at the time. I almost became an outcast because I didn't think it was very good Every single Acclaim wrestling game was a disappointment IMO. I loved the WWF so much as a kid and was let down by their console games year after year for like a decade. Only exception was WrestleMania: The Arcade Game, which was made by Midway (but I assume brought to the home by Acclaim). I do love that game.

*Peeks in from gorilla position* Ive played loads of wrestling games over the years, some are really bad, but the jank ones can be funny, here are what I think are great Virtual Pro wrestling 2 - half way between WM2000 and No Mercy, but its way, way more, (Freeim Edition adds some US guys), the CPU AI on Expert puts up a damn good fight, ive had a few epic battles. (No Mercy is still good, but the slow down. It also has a few different grapple types. Normal, Shooter (Hard grapple has a combo system) and Marital arts (Hard grapple is a take down, light has the combo system) Wrestling Empire - Jank, but with a surprisingly good carrier mode and it can have over 30 guys in the ring at once, along with props (all sorts from N64s to Toilets, to dynamite to wheel chairs), people can get injured and die. Fire Pro wrestling - Yet to play "World" but from what ive seen im missing out. What makes a good one. Well it cant have a load of inputs to do moves (WWF Attitude), CAW mode has to be both deep. not to deep and have a ton of moves Single player, they are meant for multiplayer, but a decent carrier mode is a must, recent WWE games have been more of a story mode and gives things that YOU HAVE TO DO! Wrestling Empire has gotten this right. Needs a bit more depth tho, the CPU AI has to not be stupid and not be just counter everything and do nothing (No Mercy is like that on Expert) Modern WWE games are "Fun" but are going the path of being a sim rather than being arcadey www.youtube.com/c/newLEGACYinc/featuredThat channel is quite good for Wrestling games as I think they have played every one WRESTLEFEST. I hope and pray Arcade1UP releases it some day. Theres a new version of it out

WWF No Mercy was the best. I've played a bit of VPW2 but I think No Mercy has more going for it over all.
Gameplay is the most important thing. Later games had all the bells and whistles but I love the No Mercy/AKI system. Single mode and CAW are also important.

The new AEW game is said to play like No Mercy as it has the old Aki team working on it

I haven't been watching AEW or any wrestling the last few years but if it lives up to its pedigree (pun intended!) then I may pick it up.

Theres a new version of it out Yeah, I've seen RetroMania online before. Unfortunately it just has zero wrestlers I would ever want to play as.

Anyone tried 80s Mania Wrestling on Android? (apologies if already mentioned and I missed it) Interesting little retro style game, you're essentially in charge of a promotion and are involved in signing wrestlers and booking matches. Every month there's a PPV.

WWE has them on strict contracts or some charge way to much to have there appearance in a game. They could go the Firepro/Wrestling empire route and have the likes of Bulk Brogan, The Mortician, The Stone, Pinnacle Solider and Jim Sana, but they could get in trouble.

WWE learned their lesson from those Legends of Wrestling games, which had incredible rosters. They'll never let something like that happen again unfortunately.

They weren't official WWE games, the closest they had was Legends of Wrestlemania Showdown legends of wrestling, that was a janky, glitchfest game, kinda fun due to that Its really weird when you see the MachoMan do moves that we know he never did.(Pop up cutter?) Some of the glitches are weird, had a someone do a piledriver motion when I didnt and the odd case of someone teleporting

They weren't official WWE games Yes, that's my point. WWE was asleep at the wheel and even though the games sucked, it was a giant embarrassment to WWE for there to be a competing game with Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, Macho Man, Andre the Giant, Jake the Snake, Bret Hart, etc. They'll never let it happen again. They tie up the video game rights for everyone they can so that an upstart like RetroMania isn't able to put together a marketable roster.

They tie up the video game rights for everyone they can so that an upstart like RetroMania isn't able to put together a marketable roster. They just bung them as paid DLC in the recent WWE game. They give the roster a LOAD of restrictions on what they can and cant do. Things like appearing on podcasts, doing TV/films advertising even streaming Appearing on other promotions is a major nono (Bar the recent Impact wrestling Slamiversary where they had short "Congratulations" videos). This might change due to Vince stepping down
