I find myself playing PS3 more and more these days.
Despite refurbishing my PS4, I just can't get past the 3rd PlayStation and its incredible games library. From NFS Shift 2 through Bayonetta to Conan and the Uncharted series, the PS3 had tons to offer. It even fits in the "retro" bracket now. The Skate series is currently taking up my time.
Any PS3 love in here?

Its grown on me over the years. I got one out of annoyance and in protest at my 360 RROD'ing, and my dearly beloved PS3 Slim has been going strong ever since.
The PS3 library definitely has some awesome exclusives, such as the Motorstorm series and Heavy Rain. I think the 360 was probably the better experience at the time with the stronger online offering, and had usually the more reliable and better performing multi-platform ports. I use my PS3 far more now than my 360 though. Might play a bit of Ridge Racer 7 later, since its a nice sunny weekend....

I got the PS3 last that generation, basically I saw a computer shop selling a second hand one for £100 an old phat model and decided hey why not. loved playing Little Big planet on it and other stuff and it slid next to my 360.
That PS3 went through 3 repairs, self done ones and then I just couldn't get it to go anymore but then it was charity shop to the rescue when I got a Slim line for £10.... its a good machine but I am more of an Xbox Gamer when it comes to that particular generation.

Yeah, I got a launch day PS4 before I got my PS3, after being a 360 fan for years. I've spent some considerable time catching up since. I'm always on the lookout for some kind of Gears of War type game for PS3. It seemed to be the racers I liked most, though. I was a huge fan of the WRC series.

I enjoyed Golden Axe Beast Rider on PS3. Yes, I said it 😀
Also, does a Gears of War type game exist on the machine?

Epic Games did leak an official prototype build of Gears of War 3 on PS3! Had some vicious screen tearing and poor framerate....the 360 fanboys would have been laughing had it actually come out properly.

What was the closest approximation of a GoW-style game on PS3? Was there one? I have warhammer 40k but its like a cartoon version of it. I cant take it seriously.

PS3 is a fantastic system. Despite it and the 360 sometimes being viewed as the same games-wise, there's tons that wasn't released on 360, especially if you like JRPGs and the obscure releases from NIS, Gust etc.
I didn't get mine early on (the price was crazy for the time and launch games were not system sellers imo) but I got in with the first Slim model, a 250GB machine that I still have. I think it was Yakuza 3 releasing that finally made me cave as I love that series and it was PS-exclusive at the time.
Don't have a massive collection anymore because I only kept the stuff I will definitely re-play:
Sonic Racing Transformed Valkyria Chronicles Vanquish Ultra Street Fighter IV Soulcalibur IV (steelbook) Street Fighter X Tekken Anarchy Reigns Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 GTA IV + Episodes GTA V Residebg Evil 5 Gold Edition Tekken Hybrid Tekken Tag 2 (collectors edition) No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise Driver San Francisco King of Fighters XIII Daytona USA (digital) Afterburner Climax (digital) Super SFII Turbo HD Remix (digital) Double Dragon Neon (digital) Hotline Miami (digital)
One issue for this gen is that a lot of stuff has since been remastered or re-released in DLC-inclusive packages for the PS4 gen. I got rid of all my Yakuza games for example as I bought the HD Remastered compilation for PS4 which is actually better, restoring content that was originally cut for Western PS3 ports.
Another thing worth pointing out is that the digital store is still up and there are loads of great PS1 bargains. Unfortunately, Sony have made going online with these older systems a lot harder so you need new passwords setting up if you haven't updated the firmware in ages, mobile passcode verification, and can only add store credit via the website and not directly through the PS3 anymore. There was also a bug introduced that makes the virtual keyboard not display unless you have the screen set to 4:3. Obviously makes passwords and text entry impossible. My advice is stay with old firmware if you don't intend to use the online aspects.

I'll see what eScum or cex are selling it for.

I keep meaning to get hold of Afterburner Climax - not sure if its easier to get on PSN or XBL on PS3 or 360 respectively, if they are still even available. Could perhaps still exist on Xbox One store.
Its also nice to see that some of the classic PS3 multiplayer games like Motorstorm, Resistance and a few others, have private servers where the official servers went down long back. I got into Motorstorm way too late in life, which meant I missed out on all the online PS3 stuff, as well as all the software updates...thankfully the private servers have that all covered, so was delighted to feel my ps3 controller have the added rumble feature i was sorely missing prior! Was fun racing random strangers too.
Seriously though guys, the Motorstorm series deserves more praise, am i right? The one of the PSP is also epic, Arctic Edge. They nailed it every game, for fun, wild racing, atmosphere, intensity and brilliant accompanying soundtrack. Its a tragedy that a 4-game compilation has never been re-released/remastered in high resolution and 60fps. Why are all these great opportunities missed?! They don't even have to do THAT much to them...

I think you might need to basically go down less regular routes to acquire it.

Yeah the license for the planes from the likes of Northrop Grumman and Boeing expired so Climax was pulled ages ago.
Same as Outrun Online Arcade though at least Outrun 2006 is very similar and readily available used.
