Well, we have to have this one, right?
Anyway, not gaming massively at the moment but spreading myself a few games as and when I feel like it:
Pokemon Red (3DS Virtual Console version) This is the Police (PS4) G-Darius HD (Switch)
Pokemon I've already rambled about in the purchases thread. _____
This is the Police is like a police management sim game with a noir-esque storyline (with abstract/simplistic art style that's kinda cool) and is batty as hell. So many bizarre things happen and there are so many options including tons of corrupt/dodgy plays to make, that I don't know where to start. The BAD thing is that it's very easy to screw up and get caught in Catch 22's. For example, the mayor's office/city hall will regularly order you to do things such as break up LGBT or Black protests via force. If you do these things then you get investigated for abuse of power - too many strikes and you get arrested yourself, essentially ending your current save file since the game saves every in-game "day", so you will always load up the day of your arrest.
But if you refuse these dodgy city hall orders for the sake of morality, the mayor will say that he is unhappy with your performance and slash your budget, forcing you to fire officers. Less officers means less ability to respond to crimes, thus MORE poor performance and more budget cuts that keep you stuck in downward spiral. You will also get requests for more officers and SWAT upgrades refused for poor performance.
It's like balancing on a knife edge and trying to please both sides which is impossible. Decisions you take affect what happens down the line and I haven't quite worked out how to do it right, even mid-way into my second "go" after having to restart from scratch.
It's a crazy game really, and almost one of those "so crap it's entertaining" ones. Unfortunately, nobody else seems to have heard of it, let alone played it.
_____
G-Darius is just good old-school shmup action. I'm absolutely terrible at these games but I've always had time for Darius (particularly Gaiden and Burst) because the music is awesome and the massive mecha sealife bosses are amazing. I bought G-Darius HD physical on Switch for something stupid like £15 off Amazon. There is an immediate update which adds in other versions of the game for free. So you have the Arcade original + the HD revamp, the v.2 arcade revision (plus a HD version of THAT), and the "For Consumer" version which is basically the PS1 port from back in the day if you'd prefer to play that.

Just finished AI The Somnium Files 2 for the Switch.
Just as enjoyable as the first game in the series. I've not played many visual novel style games but this series is really good, great characters and humour.

Currently playing Rune Factory - A Fantasy Harvest Moon on the Nintendo DS.
Very addictive game, though once you've gone through a few of the required sections to get through, the game does get a bit samey. That said it takes a solid week of playing the game before it starts feeling that way. Still a heap of fun.

At the moment just Retroleague games. Blueprint on MAME and Rex on Spectrum. Both games I've never played before (even though I'm the one that nominated Blueprint) and finding them both fun and infuriating in their own ways.

Solo: Breath of the Wild...will I ever finish Breath of the Wild? I've been putting off climbing the last tower for a while now.
Local multiplayer: Unravel Two. An outstanding game. Wrestling Empire. Absolutely crazy and littered with bugs, but that adds to the hilarity (especially when you first play it with someone else), and it's the best wrestling game since No Mercy.

Solo: Breath of the Wild...will I ever finish Breath of the Wild? I've been putting off climbing the last tower for a while now. I didn't get very far, even though I spent absolutely hours on the game. Problem is that it's insanely easy to get mega side-tracked by just exploring and wandering around and that's exactly what I did. When you get the glider? Incredible sense of freedom, I thought.

Local multiplayer: Unravel Two. An outstanding game. Been playing this with my step-daughter. She's loving it, and the mechanics etc are really nice, really well made.

Android version of Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion.
Played the trial section through to the paywall, paid for it, played the rest to completion all in one day. Far from the longest game in the world but reasonably simple, and fun the whole way through.

He's the top player in the UK It's insane watching him How did I not know about Clone Hero? I have Ultrastar Deluxe, which is a Singstar clone with loads of ripped/homebrew tracks, I've been looking for a GH/Rock Band clone for years but they never seemed to get anywhere decent. Frets on Fire was the last viable sort of one I saw.
