Been busy reviewing games.
Heidelberg 1693 - a sort of Ghosts 'n' Goblins type of thing with great, but gruesome, visuals. Difficulty spikes make it a bit of a chore at times.
Inertial Drift - a racing game that cleverly uses the right stick to control drift. Is so close to being brilliant but the race structure is a bit dull.
Game Type DX - a frankly mental side-scrolling shoot 'em up with a front end that is a piss-take of when the Xbox 360 went from the Blades to the NXE dashboard. Good but samey.
Bloons TD5 - a perfect game for listening to podcasts too.
Recently maxed out Hardspace Shipbreaker. It's really just a game where you throw things in three large bins when you break it down but I really enjoyed it, even if it was a bit too long.

Swoon - Earth Escape on Steam, 2.5D platform game that desperately wants to be Klonoa.

Finished 100%ing the Spyro games again. Found the underwater swimming through midair glitch for the first time in 3 which was hilarious.

The Chant. Not bad, but not quite up to the standards of the Dark Pictures series.

And yes, I'm aware it isn't a retro game, but it does have a bit of a retro, Resi vibe to it.

Vampire Surviviors on Game Pass (PC)
And I’ll be playing LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga when it finishes downloading...

Currently playing World of Xeen on PC. Legendary game, which combines Might and Magic 4 and 5 into one large super game. MM5: Darkside of Xeen was my gateway drug to PC gaming back in the early 90s. One look at that game (as well as Ultima 8: Pagan) and I JUST HAD to get a PC as the games on it looked so completely different to anything that consoles offered.
Fun game, though the amount of number crunching that you need to do on your end, as the game doesn't tell you would definitely frustrate a lot of people. I've had to setup a spreadsheet to keep track of it all, to ensure I have the best of gear at all times. All of that was 100% rectified in the later 3D entries in the series from MM6 onward, though I do prefer the 2D sprites of games 3-5 in the series. Plus the 3D entries introduced their own issues.
It's a big shame that no'one ever modded in Might and Magic 3: Isles of Terra into World of Xeen, considering that the game engine is nearly identical as is the graphics. I'd buy that for a dollar.

It’s more a retro-style game than a retro game, but Vampire Survivors is a highly compulsive game that has now mugged hours of my time over the holiday. It has the feel of a twin-stick shooter, albeit the first quirk is that it is actually just single stick - you can’t actually aim, as each weapon has its own firing pattern and rate of fire. All of these can be levelled up. There are scores of unlocks, from new weapons to new characters. Style-wise it starts out looking like Amiga PD, but when the action ramps up it’s clear that this would be well beyond a 16-bit micro. Hundreds of sprites fill the screen and levelled up weapons add eye-melting pyrotechnics. A masterclass of budget gaming!

Moved onto Star Wars: Dark Forces. Thanks to the recently released "The Force Engine" source port, get to play it in 1080p, mouselook and saving/load in missions. Very handy.

Picked up a Japanese copy of Fighters Megamix for the Saturn. Can't believe how cheap this still is - minty condition with spine card and everything and it was less than £12 delivered. Incredible.
Been busy playing it on my Saturn again and unlocked all the characters again the other night (last save data was lost long ago on a previous Saturn and I never backed it up). Only used Candy/Honey so far as I was always decent as her in both Fighting Vipers/Megamix.
The music in this game is incredible. I love the remixes of the VF2 themes and the Vipers music is pretty much all kick-ass.
The only nuisance is that every track other than Rent-a-Hero's restarts from the beginning between rounds. I've been listening to some of it on Youtube to hear the whole thing properly.

Bought a router for direct wifi connection to my PC, so got back onto Half Life: Alyx.
I'd got a bit bored with the early game, but met an alien and found a shotgun, so it's moving along now.

Played a bit of that Kuru Kuru Kururin on the Switch GBA app, it's a nice idea that's pretty fun in short bursts, gets pretty challenging too.

Pokemon FireRed via emulation on my Retroid Pocket 2. Absolute crack as usual, even more so since I haven't had a play-through since the game was new back in 2004!! Been so good starting afresh and going through it all again. Done 5/8 gyms so far and had to forcibly put my RP2 away for a bit as I have other stuff to get done IRL at the moment and Pokemon is too distracting and consuming (for me at least).

Currently playing through the remaster of Command and Conquer / Red Alert.
Some damn fine work by the devs of this one, though it's not perfect as many of the videos were not touched. Gameplay wise though it's the same great game in 1080p (if you click space bar to switch to remastered mode), and the unlockable makings of segments (that you unlock each video of, as you play through the campaign) are excellent. FMV's may not be liked by many, but for me I absolutely love them, for all their cheesy glory. The remastered music is great as well. Highly recommend it if your a C&C fan.

Finished Pokemon Trading Card Game on Gameboy (played on my 3DS) in just 8 hours. I haven't played this since I was a kid so I thought - for some reason - that there was more to it but nope. Just 8 gym leaders and an Elite 4-esque final challenge and that's it really, unless you want to collect all of the rare cards. I applied deck-building knowledge and a Base/Jungle/Fossil format meta strategy from back in the day and made a Haymaker deck (based on the real life tournament variants from the late 90's/early 2000's) and the game was disgustingly easy to power through. Good fun though.
Also still playing FireRed and going through the torturous process of levelling up Dragonair to Lv.55 to get it to evolve into Dragonite. I'm so glad that the Vs Seeker item exists in this game as I remember doing the same in the original Gameboy version of Red and having to just keep fighting wild Pokemon over and over (which give off less exp than Pokemon used by trainers). Even so, it's taking a while!
