I was enjoying Oracle Of Ages until I had my progress halted by the apparently infamous Goron dance section, I don't know if I'll ever get past it, which would be a real shame. I'll come back to it eventually but I'm going to take a break as it was driving me up the wall.
Instead I put on Timesplitters 2, just wanted to replay the first level and ended up playing through most of the story mode, such a great game.

Love the Wild West and Neo Tokyo stages especially. I downloaded the soundtrack from the Free Radical website back when they were giving it away for free and I still listen to some of the music these days even if I don't really get to play the game anymore.

Was on holiday in the Torbay area last week so I checked out the arcades whilst I was there...absolute barren wastelands dominated by scammy grabber machines and other such stuff. Had fun on some of the non-videogaming stuff like the basketball and bowling things but actual games were super scarce and not in the best state either. The sum total that Brixham, Torquay, Paignton, and Teignmouth (the pier) had to offer were: Daytona USA (some sort of later "Sega Racing Classic" re-release edition) - had a sign on it saying that you weren't allowed to use manual transmission...whether it was broken or the owners didn't want it GETTING broken, I don't know. Obviously still a great game but...yeah Terminator Salvation - these used to be everywhere a few years ago and yet I only saw one machine. Player 1 gun was out of order; Player 2 gun was all cracked and literally had chunks missing out of it...how the hell does that even happen? Didn't bother with this even though I do like the game. Sega Rally 2 - One of the steering wheels had a quarter of the rim completely torn out as if a wild animal had eaten it Ferrari F355 (triple screen) - didn't play this one but it looked like it was actually fully working and in good nick...a surprise. Mario Kart Arcade DX - Saw at least 3 of these and to be fair, was probably the most multiplayer fun we had (played them every time we saw them). I do like this even though I think the home versions are still better. Ghost Squad - Had a good go on this as I love it BUT there was a literal huge hole punched throg the plastic/glass of the screen as if somebody had chucked something at it... And that was it. So lots of damage and broken games, and all the classics completely absent. Not a single Time Crisis or House of the Dead game has survived the last 5-10 years in this area when it used to be possible to play the whole series of both by crawling from one arcade to the next. Brixham in particular used to have 3x arcades with a lot of great machines such as Scud Race, Sega Touring Car, Tekken 4, all the lightgun games, Outrun 2 etc. but there's just one tiny arcade left now the other two (including the big one which is now an art gallery or restaurant) are gone. Oh and pretty much everything now costs £1 per credit so what IS left ain't cheap.

The first level is definitely my fave, subtle hints of Goldeneye at first before it becomes it's own game with zombies and all. Yeah the music is great, especially the western stage.

I had a notion to play some Darius Gaiden today. I've been shite at it for 27 years.

I had a notion to play some Darius Gaiden today. I've been shite at it for 27 years. Love the Darius series for the sea life theme, amazing design of the bosses, and the music. But yeah, I am terrible unless credit-feeding. Was okay-ish at getting through Darius Burst but the older ones? Nah. I have the Switch release of G-Darius and I'm so bad at it.

LOL it's even worse with target fixation. I'm usually saying, "I need to avoid that cluster of enemy bullets..." just as I go directly into the middle of them

I'm excited to see the 'free' Sea of Stars update includes local co-op! So I'll probably be playing that soon.

Another RPG I own on my backlog, no idea when I get around to playing it but I'm pleased to see these free updates. I must say I'm intrigued by the business sense of these developers going to the trouble of adding free content they (probably) weren't obligated to provide, after they've already got the customer's money. I mean it's great for the player so is it all about generating good will with the customer and encouraging new players to buy the game? Or is it about getting players invested in the game so they'll buy paid DLC in future? Any paid DLC is optional though and in this case would seem like genuinely new extra content so either way I'm grateful for this approach, makes a welcome change from "AAA" games launching with paid DLC and micro transactions etc.

It's good promotion for their next game I suppose, which has been announced. I would've preferred co-op play on the cart, but the free update has moved Sea of Stars straight to the top of our to-play list. It was a highly requested feature apparently, so maybe they'll get new buyers as well as folk replaying it.

Currently playing:
* Might and Magic - World of Enroth (completed MM7 - For Blood and Honour, and now moved onto MM6 - Mandate of Heaven) * Resident Evil 1 (PS1) - First time in 20 years playing this again. Being the month of Halloween, had to play something spooky. Love it's B-grade Romero zombie movie style cheesy-ness. The first game has a feel different to the others. Lots of puzzles, difficult enemies with very limited ammo supply.

Finished Ys Origins on the Switch. Really fun, yet relatively simple, dungeon crawler, well worth the fiver I paid.

Nearing the end of Pokemon Violet and have gotten a Master Ball. Wondering what I'd use it on made me realise just how many Pokemon are missing from this game. Why do they keep on making up hundreds and hundreds of new pokemon just to end up leaving a duck-load of them out of the games?
Edit: didn't realise the forum auto-edits swear words.

It's probably relatively easy to design a new Pokemon and every new Pokemon is potentially a new opportunity to sell merch with its likeness, but when it comes to the games making the 3D models and doing the animations it probably takes a lot more time and effort.
