Trying out GBA now via Retroarch...
Does anybody know a simple way to sort out the swapped A and B buttons for Nintendo stuff? I've been in and out of so many menus and read so many Reddit posts about the subject and can't figure out how to do it. I've tried manually editing the controller from within the Quick Menu when playing a GBA game but just don't understand what the Hat# 0 designations and all that stuff is. The assigned 'keys' for each button look like a PC keyboard with the likes of Z for one of them, and all manner of turbo stuff going on.
I accidentally did it once but it also ended up inverting the A and B for the Retroarch menu outside of the GBA core so had to reset it all again.

You can set specific configurations for particular RetroArch cores. Just load the app directly, load the core, and then change the settings. It shouldn't affect the global ones that way.
I'll admit to just running everything with Nintendo mappings though.

Well I don't know what I've done but when I open RetroArch now, there's a message about "falling back on defaults" or something in a green box at the bottom of the screen. Essentially it means that A and B have become swapped for the RA menu but are now correct when playing GBA so...er...success? I was about to just live with using A and B the wrong way around and not bother but this accident seems to have sorted it for now as long as I remember to use B to select stuff within the app.
I did try endlessly within the core but couldn't work it out. I was trying to edit the input 1 but there wasn't a clear correlation between the buttons on the physical device and what they were mapped to for GBA specifically. The mapping almost looked as if it were meant for PC with 'Z' being referenced even though there isn't a specific Z button on the RP.

Retroid have just announced the Pocket Flip, which might be the thing for all those waiting for a decent clamshell. liliputing.com/retroid-pocket-flip-is-a-clamshell-style-handheld-for-retro-gaming/There are no detailed specs or pricing confirmed, but it'll have hall-effect clickable sliders, active cooling, a 5000mAh battery and analogue triggers which all point towards it being a major improvement for PS2 and GameCube games. Fingers are crossed that it'll have a SoC that's up to the job of emulating most of their libraries at full speed.

After taunting us all week it turns out it's going to have the same spec as the RP3+, so not the best for PS2 and Cube emulation.
Ah well, if you really want a clamshell this will probably be the best you're going to get for the foreseeable future though, seeing how few of them get released these days.

Has anyone tried running the PS2 sega ages games on one of these? I have a soft spot for the space harrier remake and it's getting a chore to bust out my old Asian console.

I'll have to check if I have the iso of that on one of my hard drives. I have a feeling it is installed on my HDD-modded PS2s and I know everything on there I have backed up multiple times. If I have it I'll dump it on my RP and see if it works (unless somebody else does the heavy lifting first and just grabs the game from the high seas to test it like a normal person i.e not me lol)

The Virtua Racing Sega Ages runs very well. The Panzer Dragoon version needs a tiny bit of frameskip and underclock, but is playable after tinkering. The Golden Axe remake runs perfectly. I cant speak for the ones you cited, but I'd guess they'd be OK based on how the other Sega Ages title run.

Just a word of warning, but the latest version of AetherSX2 on the Play Store now contains ads, in spite of what Tahlreth originally promised regarding the commercial exploitation of the emulator. I suspect that the recent events we discussed earlier may have played a role in this.
If you're wanting to go back to the good times, I'd suggest hunting down v1.5-3668 - the latest build prior to this - or v1.4-3660 which was the last stable build. They're both on APK Mirror, and probably elsewhere.

Good looking out. I'll make sure not to update my Aether then. Looks like I got in just in time.

I'm still setting up my RP3+. I've mostly been tinkering with PSP/GCN/PS2 settings and I've nanaged to get loads running pretty acceptably for me to play. I'm not needing 60fps all the time 40 odd is fine for me I also don't mind running frameskip though a lot of people hate it 😀
Most PSP games run at 3x resolution and its a blast to have the difficult Colin MacRae rally running full speed and fluid.

Need to get PSP up and running on mine so that I can get rid of my actual CFW-modded PSP.
Which emulator are you using for it? All of my games are in the .iso format from being used on my actual PSP and I think I read that they need to be in something else for emulation away from the original hardware.

It's another of those emulators where there's no practical difference between the free and paid versions.
Going for the Gold one will throw a few bucks the way of the developer though.
